Quick Summary

PolyLite PETG is a workhorse for parts that have to survive something: heat in a garage, sunlight on a window bracket, a bolt torqued down hard. It bonds between layers better than any PLA and shrugs off temperatures that would slump a PLA print. In exchange you accept PETG’s usual tax, which is stringing and a fussier first layer.

Polymaker’s sheet lands around 230-260 °C nozzle with a 70-80 °C bed. 245 °C and 75 °C is the setting that works most often on a 0.4 mm nozzle.

Three details matter more than temperature. First, cooling at roughly 40%: enough to hold bridges, not so much that layers unzip. Second, a first-layer gap slightly wider than you would use for PLA, because PETG bonds to smooth PEI hard enough to lift the coating if you squash it. Third, drying. A spool that has sat open for a fortnight will string no matter how well you tune retraction; 60 °C for 6 hours resets it.

Layer adhesion is the reason to buy this. Test coupons break through the layer rather than along it, and that shows up in real parts as brackets that bend before they snap. Surface finish is glossy and slightly translucent even in opaque colours, which flatters curves and shows every seam on flat walls.

Dimensional accuracy is good once you account for PETG’s tendency to bulge at corners. Slow the outer wall to about 30 mm/s and holes come out close enough to drop an M3 bolt through without reaming.

Where It Falls Short

Stringing is the headline complaint and it never fully disappears; you manage it rather than eliminate it. Supports are painful because PETG welds itself to PETG, so print supports in a different material or design them out.

The bed adhesion is also a double-edged spec. It grabs so well on textured PEI that thin parts occasionally take a flake of the plate with them. Glue stick as a release layer sounds backwards, but it works.

Verdict

For anything structural, outdoors, or near heat, PolyLite PETG is a better choice than any PLA on this site, and it costs less than Prusament for the same working window. Buy it if you print functional parts and are willing to spend an evening dialling in retraction. If you mostly print models to look at, stay on PLA and skip the aggravation.

Why does my PolyLite PETG string so much?

PETG strings when it is wet or too hot. Dry the spool at 60 °C for 6 hours, then cut nozzle temperature in 5 °C steps and raise retraction to about 1 mm on direct drive or 3-4 mm on Bowden. Coasting a fraction of a millimetre helps on curved outer walls.

Does PETG need a cooling fan?

A little. Polymaker suggests 20-60%. Full cooling makes layers separate; no cooling turns overhangs to soup. Around 40% is a good compromise for most parts.
