Print Settings That Work
225 °C nozzle, 55 °C bed. Higher temperature and lower speed produce more shine, which is the opposite of the usual advice and worth remembering when a print looks dull.
Slow the outer wall to 30-40 mm/s. Silk exaggerates every inconsistency in flow, so calibrate extrusion multiplier properly before blaming the filament for stripes. Keep cooling moderate: too much and the sheen dulls, too little and overhangs droop.
Single-wall vase-mode prints are where the material shines literally, because there are no seams for the light to break across.
Print Quality
The finish is genuinely impressive in the right colours; copper, bronze, and deep blue read as metal at arm’s length. Layer lines catch the light rather than shadowing, which flatters curved organic models and punishes flat vertical faces.
Bed adhesion is normal PLA. Stringing is slightly worse than plain PLA because the additives lower melt viscosity, so retraction wants a little more distance than usual.
Layer adhesion is the weak point and it is not subtle. A silk print snaps along a layer with noticeably less force than the same geometry in PLA+, which rules the material out for brackets, clips, and anything mechanical.
Where It Falls Short
Beyond the strength penalty, silk PLA shows print defects that matte filament hides. Seam lines, temperature drift and inconsistent flow all become visible stripes. It is also harder to photograph well and can look cheap in the wrong colour.
Colour behaviour varies between shades, so a profile dialled in for silk copper may need adjusting for silk purple.
Verdict
Buy SUNLU Silk PLA+ for vases, ornaments, gifts, and anything designed to be looked at rather than used. Print the same model in PLA+ or PETG if it has to hold anything, and calibrate flow before you decide the sheen is disappointing.

What temperature should I print SUNLU Silk PLA at?
SUNLU lists 210-230 °C with the bed at 50-60 °C. Silk filaments look glossier at higher temperatures and slower speeds, so aim at 225 °C and slow the outer wall if shine is what you are after.
Why is silk PLA weaker?
The additives that produce the sheen also reduce how well layers fuse. A silk print looks better and breaks sooner than the same model in ordinary PLA, so keep it away from load-bearing parts.
